Recovery: How God Restores Our Soul
"Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns" ~ Exodus 20:8-10
The above Scripture is taken right out of the passage where God Himself spoke the Ten Commandments to His people. You may have a list of them hanging somewhere in your home or maybe you memorized them all growing up. You might even fancy yourself as someone who tries your best to follow them all. And yet, there is one that has always seemed to be treated as "less important" than the others, especially in Western civilization where we are always busy and always pursuing something more than what we have. Ask yourself right now, if you consider yourself a follower of God and His Word, "Have I ever cared about trying to keep the Sabbath holy"? We are so conditioned to resting only when we're physical tired, which means we are mainly ignorant of the spiritual, mental, emotional, and yes even physical benefits of this discipline which is commanded of us. All of God's commands are primarily for our good, so we ought to trust Him with this one too. This week at Friendship, we'll talk about this command, and specifically how God instituted the Sabbath for our benefit. He blessed it and made it holy; we remember it and keep it holy. The message is titled "Recovery: How God Restores Our Soul". If you feel like you are just in a constant state of needing of recovery and never truly finding rest for your soul, this message is for you. Don't miss it!
