"In the Beginning, God"
"I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted" ~ Job 42:2
These words spoken by Job after he had done and said all he could to try to make sense of his suffering provide an important reminder to us - that God is above all and His sovereign will cannot be defeated. Whether we are rich or poor, successful or struggling, famous or mostly unknown, comfortable or afflicted, we know that God is in heaven and we are on earth and that means we must have an appropriate reverence toward Him. To live without knowledge of His greatness and authority over us is foolish. The first four words of the Bible tell us that God existed before anything else; nothing created Him, but He created everything in the natural world. It was not some random process that put everything into order. What does that mean for our lives? How should our consideration of these facts change our relationship with God and others? This week at Friendship, we aim to address these questions in a sermon titled "In the Beginning God". It is based on those first four words which provide the basis for much of the wisdom that we find in the Book of Proverbs. We'll be talking about that wisdom throughout our new series called "Street Smarts". Join us for this first week of the series to discuss creation and how we must relate to God because of it.
