"Promise Keeper"
“Not one of the good promises which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass.” — Joshua 21:45 (AMP)
Have you ever given your word to someone, only to discover you couldn’t keep it? Even with the best of intentions, our promises are fragile. Life shifts. Circumstances change. We fall short. But Joshua reminds us of something far greater: God’s promises are never broken. Not one. Not ever. Joshua 21:45 comes at the close of Israel’s long journey into the land God had promised centuries earlier. After wilderness wandering, battles, setbacks, and victories, Joshua stands before the people and essentially says: “Look around. Every single thing God said—He has done.” And as Joshua continues into chapter 22, he gives the people a charge that still speaks to us today: “Love the Lord your God… walk in all His ways… keep His commandments… hold fast to Him, and serve Him with all your heart and soul.” (22:5)
If we’re honest, none of us can say we do this perfectly. But Advent reminds us of something breathtaking: God’s faithfulness does not depend on our perfection. We are living in the blessing of a Savior who came down from heaven, walked among us, suffered, died, and rose again — all to fulfill the greatest promise of all: that we would be His people and He would be our God (Exodus 6:7). As we continue in our series, The Advent of the King, we celebrate His first coming with joy — and look toward His second coming with hope. This weekend at Friendship, we’ll be looking at “The Promise Keeper” and exploring some of the faithful promises God has made to His people. My prayer is that last week’s message stirred your hope and strengthened your faith — and that this week, your heart is reminded again: The God who promised is the God who performs. If you know someone searching for meaning, purpose, or hope, invite them to join you. Let them hear about the God whose promises never fail.
