"No Excuses"

"By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible" ~ Hebrews 11:3

This is the first "by faith" statement written in Hebrews 11, the chapter of the Bible sometimes called "The Hall of Faith". After this, the author would list a whole bunch of faithful individuals who overcame the odds, endured hardships, and accomplished big things through faith in the God whom they concluded was bigger than their circumstances, considering that He had already created the entire physical universe out of that which we can't even see. While their contemporaries may have mocked them, their understanding was that if God could handle that, He could certainly handle them and whatever they faced. While many around them ignored God's existence and presence, these people realized it is obvious, and is only ignored by fools. When we refuse to acknowledge and submit to God, who has made the truth about Himself obvious, it leads us down a horrendous and destructive path of wanton sin. This week at Friendship, we'll talk about some of those results, as we continue in the Book of Romans with a message titled "No Excuses". The people Paul writes about were foolish toward God, but have no excuse since His invisible qualities are plain to see through Creation. Join us for this hard truth which we must hear and heed, so that we can more fully grasp the depths to which Christ Jesus went to save us!
