Worship and Wonder
"Oh Lord, my God, when I, in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy hands have made. I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout, the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee, how great Thou art, how great Thou art!"
I was born five months after my grandfather passed away, so I never got to meet him. But my father has talked a lot about him and one of the things I always remember is that his favorite hymn to sing as he and my grandmother walked around the house was "How Great Thou Art". So, this particular hymn has had special significance in my own home ever since I was a child. As I grew older and learned the lyrics, they taught me that the most awe-inspiring thing about our great God is to stand and observe the work of His hands. This is most obvious in creation, which we can see daily. But we also see it in His provisions, His miraculous healings, His pursuit and restoring of the lost, and His righteous judgment on those who do wrong, which sometimes includes ourselves. Our God is truly a God of wonders, and when we come before Him with needs and requests, we ought to have a heart of worship. This week at Friendship, we will talk about waging war against the enemy through "Worship and Wonder". You will not want to miss this gathering, as we will also hear testimony about God's goodness and faithfulness to our congregation, and to specific individuals who are being baptized!
