"Discipleship"

Mar 15, 2026

Then He said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me" ~ Luke 9:23

What does it mean to "follow" Jesus? So many people identify themselves as Christ-followers, yet don't want to let Him lead anything in their lives. But Jesus made it clear that in order to make the cut and be accepted as one of His disciples, there are three things required - the denial of self, the willingness to suffer and sacrifice, and the submission to His leadership and direction. Following Jesus, though, requires more than just a mental and verbal acknowledgement that He is your Lord. We have to live it out in every aspect of our lives. It is more about hands-on learning than studying things that He has said. It's more like being an apprentice than being a new employee of a large company who is told to go and read the employee handbook and then start working. To be true disciple of Jesus, we must be willing to go on a journey with Him and learn something in each and every experience. This week at Friendship, we'll discuss the foundation of "Discipleship". For too many in today's Church, we've whittled it down to our experiences while involved in the local congregation. But it is much more than that. It's a lifestyle. Join us to hear more about it and be invited on the adventure of your life!
