"Truth"

"God is not human, that He should lie, not a human being, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and then not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?" ~ Numbers 23:19

Sometimes, we make the mistake of looking at God as if He were another human being. When human beings speak to us, we aren't sure whether we can believe or trust them. Even if they are close to us and have a nearly perfect track record, there is always the slim possibility that what they're saying could be false. They might even lie unintentionally. When it comes to God, however, no such possibility exists. Since He was here before truth could even be known, He is the One who determined what is true, and we can verify much of it today. In the section of Scripture which includes the above verse, Balaam the sorcerer was hired by the king of Moab to put a curse on the people of Israel, but Balaam had learned that he can only prophesy God's true word (which God used his donkey to speak in the previous chapter). In other words, if you want the truth, go to God and His messengers; if you want something else, go somewhere else! This week at Friendship, we will be talking about the foundation of "Truth". It's not only about knowledge, information, and data. Primarily, it's about knowing the One who IS the way and the truth and the life. If you've been confused, searching, or just wondering how you can trust God's word, you don't want to miss this message!
