"Creation"

Jan 4, 2026    Lead Pastor Logan Ames

"Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?" ~ Job 38:4-5

The above words were spoken to a man who, according to Job 1:1, was "blameless and upright", who "feared God and shunned evil". And yet we all have our breaking point. Job was blameless in the eyes of others and by all outward accounts did everything right, but it does not mean he was sinless. Job experienced so much pain and tragedy that he began to question God's motivation for allowing it, which caused him to even question God's creation and life itself. Maybe you've been there too. God is not against being questioned, and Job did the right thing by taking his questions to God. The issue of pride only happens when human beings think that God owes them an answer for His ways. God never answers Job's questions, other than to remind him that he was not there in the beginning, when Creation was formed, when the foundations of his world were laid. This is an important point for us to remember today. We serve a God who cannot be fully understood, a God who was there in the beginning, long before we arrived. This week at Friendship, we begin 2026 with our new sermon series called "Foundations", and we kick it off with a message regarding the foundation of "Creation". We'll talk about what's counterfeit and what's true, why it should matter to all of us, and how it points us to our need for Jesus. While many choose to skip the first weekend of the year at church, we invite you to start this year and this sermon series off on the right foot. Join us for a truly "foundational" sermon!
