"Don't Miss Jesus"

"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come" ~ Matthew 24:42

The picture, provided by brother Glenn Meyer, illustrates the planning of those who have heard the Lord's word and assumed they are secure in going with Him. In their eyes, "keeping watch" and "being prepared" for His return are viewed like getting ready for a trip. You have a known quantity of time left before you must begin your travels, so you focus on all of the things you need to get done in advance so that you are prepared when it's time to leave. The problem with viewing Jesus' return this way is that the quantity of time we have left is NOT known. It's not something for which you can procrastinate, then make a list, then attack it and get it "done". To be prepared for His return is to be doing His will, and the only way to be sure we are actually doing His will is to come to Him and know Him. This week at Friendship, we'll talk about what it means to truly know Jesus, so that we are ready for His return. It actually has very little to do with the timing of His return, and everything to do with some intentional choices RIGHT NOW.
