"Amen"

"The four living creatures said, 'Amen', and the elders fell down and worshiped" ~ Revelation 5:14

The above verse shows the response of the living creatures and the elders to the previous proclamations of worship - the thousands of angels in a loud voice saying "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise", and then every creature saying, "To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, forever and ever". When we say "Amen", it's more than just a prayer-ender; it's more than the word you are desperate for when someone's been praying for a half hour straight. This amazing word communicates agreement, not only with what's been said, but with trust in the will and word of God. From the first time it is used in the Bible to the last time, it declares that whatever God has said is true and will happen. Jesus used it many times, with the word often translated in the Gospels as "truly" or "verily". Therefore, let us take the word seriously, as we declare to whatever God has spoken or whatever we have asked according to His will, "So be it". This week at Friendship, we'll learn a lot more about the word "Amen" as we wrap up our sermon series based on the Lord's Prayer. And as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, we'll be reminded that everything God has promised will be true, as all His promises are "Yes" and "Amen" in Christ Jesus.
