Delayed Gratification

Aug 18, 2019    Pastor Logan Ames

We live in a world that is ever increasing in people, in wealth, and in opportunities. Just think about how many channels you had on the TV when you were younger, if you even had a TV, versus the hundreds of options you have now. How about the phone? If your family had one when you were younger, it was probably plugged into the wall and it certainly didn't do anything more than make and receive calls. You didn't even know who was calling you, yet you answered and still survived! Now, we have phones that do just about everything for us. There are more jobs, more homes, more cars, and more dollars in the world than ever before. Isn't it crazy, then, to accept that there is also more sadness and depression in the world than ever before? This reality speaks directly to the problem of assuming that getting what we want and getting it NOW provides the contentment we're seeking. It rarely, if ever, does. This week at Friendship, we'll talk about the importance of "Delayed Gratification" and keeping our focus on the long-term blessings of God rather than the short-term thrills we seek.
