The Great Day Of God Almighty
"He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat, He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat; oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! Be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on" ~ Julia Ward Howe, The Battle Hymn of the Republic
Despite what some in this country today choose to believe and promote, our founding fathers, flawed as they were, trusted in the sovereignty and provision of the Almighty God as they worked to establish and defend this constitutional republic in which we live. They loved freedom more than even their own lives, believed that it was an "unalienable right" given them by the Creator, and trusted that, if conflicts arose with nations who did not want to recognize their right to be free and independent, God would judge between them righteously. Knowing that the Lord is coming back and that we will all stand before God's throne of judgment tends to polarize us. If we are confident that we are on the side of righteousness, we look forward to it. If we haven't repented of our sins and surrendered to Jesus, we might have a sense of fear and dread. Either way, the day is coming. This week at Friendship, we will talk about "The Great Day of God Almighty" and how we must deal with its coming. We'll lean heavily into the prophetic and apocalyptic Scriptures in the Bible, and while we'll briefly discuss what everyone wishes to know regarding timing, we'll focus more on how we are commanded to live, knowing it will happen suddenly. Join us as we recognize 250 years as the United States of America, but then focus on how we remain patient and faithful as that great day of God Almighty approaches!
