True & Faithful Scribe

Nov 22, 2020    Ben Sorbello

Has 2020 been a difficult year for you in many ways? Have you found it difficult to praise God and remember His goodness due to tragedies or losses you've experienced? Have you sensed or seen God working in the midst of it all? These are typical reflection questions for the end of the year, but it's especially important to consider them as we approach our national Thanksgiving holiday. Often around this day, we are encouraged to only think about that for which we are grateful. But that ignores the very origin of the holiday and the tragedy out of which it was born. When President Lincoln issued his Thanksgiving proclamation in 1863, our country was still in the midst of the chaos and tragedy of the great Civil War. The need for a period of INTENTIONAL thanksgiving was clear as so many families were devastated and suffering. This was the only way they could remember all that God had done for them. This week at Friendship, we'll talk about the importance of remembering God's words and His good deeds toward us even when we've experienced great suffering. In the Book of Ezra, the people needed their "True & Faithful Scribe" to put their focus on the Lord as they began the recovery from exile. We hope you'll attend this important message this weekend and let the Lord speak into your heart!
