"New Territory"
"Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even great works than these, because I am going to the Father" ~ John 14:12
"Greater works"? Seriously, Lord? Jesus wasn't joking with Philip when He said these words. On the surface, it seemed like a lot of pressure. Philip had to be wondering how in the world God could expect Him to do even greater things than what he witnessed his Lord doing when He walked on water, fed the 5,000 with a few fish and loaves, healed the blind, deaf, and lame, and forgave people of their sins. And yet, the expectation remained. It was not a suggestion from Jesus, but a guarantee. If that makes you a little overwhelmed, you are not alone. I am with you, but more importantly, Jesus gave us a promise at the end of the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 that will bring comfort to you and all who worry how we'll do this: "And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age". This week at Friendship, we'll journey with Paul and his companions as they take the gospel message to "New Territory", receiving both blessing AND persecution all along the way. Their works and ours could never be greater than Jesus' works in significance, but they had greater impact as the church expanded and the gospel was amplified in more and more places. Join us for this important word and consider how and where God might be leading you to step out of your comfort zone to do His great works!
