"The Blood of the Martyrs"

"You intended to harm me, but God meant it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives" ~ Genesis 50:20

The above words were part of Joseph's response to his brothers when he was in a position to exact revenge against them and they were certain he would. I'm sure Joseph at times battled the temptation for revenge, along with he devastation that his own flesh and blood would sell him as a slave simply because of jealousy. But the more he drew closer to God, the more he saw God's perspective on his suffering, and learned that God can bring blessing out of any hardship.

Today is September 11, and like many of you, I remember exactly where I was when I first heard the news of the terrorist attacks that took place on this day 24 years ago. I also remember the sadness and outrage that so many expressed as the day went on. Many people tragically lost their lives that day, yet it awakened in our country a desire for unity, and for faith, hope, and love. People sought comfort from God in a way they hadn't before, and stepped up to love their neighbor in sacrificial ways. It was one of the worst days in our nation's history, and God still used it for some good, to draw more people into a relationship with Him through Jesus. This week at Friendship, we'll continue in our AMPLIFIED series in Acts by looking at the boldness of the first follower of Jesus to lay down his life for the truth of the gospel. We'll discuss how God uses "The Blood of the Martyrs" as a foundation for the building of His Church. Join us for a fresh look at your own hardships and the ways in which God might be using them for good!
