"Unchained"
Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed" ~ John 8:34-36
There is a significant question that every follower of Jesus must ask themselves: "If Jesus has set me free in order to live a life in freedom, why do I still feel held down by so many chains?" The answer probably has something to do with how well we understand what Jesus has done for us and whether we stand firm in it. There are a lot of things to be afraid of in the world, and a lot of sins to enslave us. There are also many worldly pursuits and concerns which distract us from the life of freedom God wants for us. In addition, everyone feels some kind of pressure from expectations in their lives, whether they come from within themselves or others. When you add up all of these things that people face, it's no wonder we cannot find peace and freedom on our own. But for followers of Jesus, we have an answer. We have One who broke our chains. The only way to be enslaved again is to allow it to happen, to willingly pick up the chain and put it around our necks. This week at Friendship, we'll discuss what it means to be "Unchained" as His followers and how even a little bit of faith in Him can release or resist the chains from others. Don't miss this opportunity to be encouraged in your faith and daily walk!
