"As the Lord Wills"

"Then His disciples said to each other, 'Could someone have brought Him food?' 'My food,' said Jesus, 'is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work'" ~ John 4:33-34

In this story, which comes right after Jesus visits the Samaritan woman at the well, His disciples are concerned that He hasn't had any food. In other words, their focus is on the immediate needs/desires of the flesh rather than the will of God. Jesus explains that doing the will of God is as satisfying, if not more so, as meeting our physical needs. Jesus didn't want the flesh to take Him away from the Lord's will. This might seem crazy to us, because we'd consider food a basic need that the Lord gave us, but when we truly need it versus simply wanting it is a matter of the flesh. You know this is true in your life, in more areas than just food. You might know what the Lord wills, but your flesh wants to keep you in YOUR will. Others might even encourage you to stay safe, avoid danger, make sure you are in control of your circumstances. But those things are not consistent with someone who simply says, and believes, "The Lord's will be done". This week at Friendship, we'll look further into the Book of Acts and discuss what it means to genuinely live "As the Lord Wills". The Apostle Paul is a great example of this, and we'll look at the choices he made to make sure he stayed obedient to God. Join us and be encouraged to let go and trust Him!
