"Water for the Thirsty"
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink" ~ John 7:37
Jesus made this statement during an annual festival which brought many more people than usual to the temple in Jerusalem, and He made it during a moment when people were divided over who He was and how He could possibly be the Messiah. There was much confusion and Jesus brought clarity, even if many rejected it. Likewise today, we live during a time of mass confusion and uncertainty about the things of God. People are searching for Jesus, they just don't know it yet. They are thirsty, but they are looking for a drink in every single way the world offers. With each new experience, relationship, or pursuit, they are sure that it will be enough for them, only to discover it too fails to satisfy. The world needs us, the ambassadors for Christ, to stand up in a loud voice and proclaim that it's only in Him that they can find true and lasting fulfillment. This week at Friendship, we'll discuss the need of "Water for the Thirsty", how we must long for Jesus if we haven't yet, and what role we have as His ambassadors to point others to the living water that never runs out, even when we are meeting the physical need for water.
