"Your Kingdom Come"
Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, 'Here it is', or 'There it is', because the kingdom of God is in your midst" ~ Luke 17:20-21
In order for there to be a kingdom, there must be a king. Yet, like the Pharisees in the above verses, many people today who say they follow Jesus are overly concerned with the mysteries of the kingdom while they refuse to submit to the King. The Pharisees longed to see the Messiah's kingdom but rejected the Messiah. Their questioning of Jesus, based on the Greek word translated "observed", could be characterized as "hostile examination". They were tired of hearing His claims and wanted Him to either produce the kingdom or stop claiming to be the One sent by God. But Jesus made sure they knew that you can't just point out the kingdom, that the only way to know the kingdom is to know the King. This week at Friendship, we'll dive into the phrase "Your Kingdom Come" in the Lord's Prayer, and look at what is required of Christians to live in agreement with our desire to experience His reign.
