"Hallowed Be Your Name"

"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our 'God is a consuming fire'" ~ Hebrews 12:28-29

Do we take the above Scripture seriously? There is a sense in which we don't, because Jesus has brought us near to God and into close relationship with Him. Yet, the Scripture is found in the New Testament, and is a directive to believers to have the proper respect for God. In other words, His holiness is unchanging. We should recognize that He comforts us in all our troubles, while remembering not to become too overly comfortable with Him. We are not holy apart from Him, and only through Him and by His power do we become more holy and walk in obedience. This week at Friendship, we'll look at the phrase "Hallowed Be Your Name". Since this is something all disciples of Jesus ought to remember, He taught us to include it in our prayer life. How we communicate with God, what we ask of Him, and what unconfessed sin exists when we approach Him all demonstrate what level of understanding and reverence we have for the fact that He is holy.
