"Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being" ~ Genesis 2:7

If you were here at Friendship last weekend, you heard the above verse and were reminded that when God breathes on things, they come alive. It was true for the first human being, it was true for the disciples when Jesus breathed on them the Holy Spirit, and it was true for the word of God, which is alive and active because it is God-breathed. But this verse also reminds us of the origin of LIFE as we know it. It comes from God. Do we remember that? I don't think so. The way we look at others who look or act or think or vote differently than us, the lack of patience we display when others get in our way, and the dismissive attitude we have toward those to whom we simply aren't interested in giving the time of day are all indicators that we have forgotten or ignored the foundation of life. But if we could pray each day for the Holy Spirit to remind us that 100% of the people we will interact with on that day are God's image-bearers, maybe it would start to change our hearts and attitudes. This week at Friendship, it is Sanctity of Human Life Sunday and we will cover the foundation of "Life". We'll discuss how it should change those who claim to follow Jesus, as well as how we wage war against a cultural ideology that continues to devalue life more and more. You won't leave here without being encouraged and challenged to walk in obedience to the Creator's will!
